Mono or Poly & OSCFunc Concert

[Supercollider+MIDI keyboard+TouchOSC, performed in Duo] (Duration: 15:43)

March 2024

This work investigates how digital synthesis control and live electronic manipulation can be used in collaborative and solo settings. The electronic framework utilizes TouchOSC to control various programmed synthesizers (~myWave, ~myWindy, ~myBell, ~myBass) and a Nektar MIDI keyboard that enables flexible improvisation through both monophonic and polyphonic playing techniques. In the duo performance premiered at the Composition & Computer Music Collaboration Concert (March 29th, 2024), collaborator Zizhan Wu manages vocal processing while I control all other digital sounds.

The recorded solo performance extends this technical exploration by incorporating deliberate physical interactions between the mobile controller and the MIDI keyboard. This approach explicitly investigates the maximum utilization of physical materials and technical controls within laptop ensemble performance. The focus remains on the technical possibilities of improvisational control, examining how different control interfaces can be manipulated and combined to achieve varied sonic results in both solo and collaborative settings.
